Charities being supported with the event profits

Profits from the event are used to support local community service activities and for international assistance purposes.

  • Rotary Oceania Medical Aid for Children (ROMAC ) to provide surgical treatment for children in Australia and New Zealand
  • The Early Morning Centre (in Canberra) that supports homeless people in Canberra
  • Australian Rotary Health for Indigenous nursing scholarships.

Rotary Oceania Medical Aid for Children

Rotary Oceania Medical Aid for Children (ROMAC) provides surgical treatment for children in Australia and New Zealand from developing countries from our Pacific region in the form of life giving and/or dignity restoring surgery not accessible to them in their home country. This humanitarian program has assisted over 500 children, for the most part, from Pacific Rim countries such as PNG, Solomon Islands, Fiji, Timor Leste, Vanuatu and Vietnam.

Rotarians volunteer their time and expertise to run this Rotary project assisted by many eminent Australian and New Zealand surgeons who generously donate their time for the treatment of our patients. In Canberra, the Health Department provides the hospital services free of charge.

Apart from donations and fundraisers, ROMAC benefits from Rotarians and members of the Pacific communities in Australia volunteering to transport patients to appointments, act as home hosts, translator, etc. and the wonderful work of the surgeons and surgical teams in the many major paediatric and specialist hospitals across Australia and New Zealand.

The Early Morning Centre

https://www.emc.org.au/

The Early Morning Centre (EMC) assists Canberra people who are experiencing, or at risk of experiencing homelessness, and those experiencing social isolation via a community hub in central Canberra.

The EMC is a safe, respectful and welcoming space where guests can access essential services, support and community activities. At the EMC, they focus on our guests’ individual needs.

The EMC offers free, hot nutritious breakfast five days a week, prepared and served by volunteers. They also provide essential services and facilities including showers, lockers and computers with internet access. In addition they have healthcare services, accommodation support and community activities.

At the EMC, they understand that ‘homelessness’ is more than just ‘rooflessness’. A home provides a sense of security, stability, privacy and safety.
